Ancient Greek Art

The ancient Greeks made some of the most beautiful art in history. They lived about 2,500 years ago. Greek artists tried to make people look perfect and real. They carved marble statues that seemed almost alive. They painted scenes on pottery and built stunning temples. Greek art changed how the whole world thinks about beauty.

Statues That Look Real

Greek sculptors worked hard to make statues look lifelike. Early statues stood stiff and straight. Over time, artists learned to show movement. Statues began to twist, bend, and reach. The famous statue called Discobolus shows a man throwing a disc. You can almost feel him moving. Greeks carved statues from marble and also made them from bronze.

Pottery and Buildings

Greeks painted pictures on clay pots and vases. Some had black figures on orange clay. Others had orange figures on black clay. The paintings showed gods, heroes, and everyday life. Greeks also built amazing buildings. The Parthenon in Athens is a famous temple with tall columns. Its design has been copied in buildings all over the world, even today.
