Leonardo da Vinci

Leonardo da Vinci was one of the most talented people who ever lived. He was born in Italy in 1452. He was a painter, sculptor, inventor, scientist, and writer all at once. He painted the Mona Lisa, the most famous painting in the world. He also drew plans for flying machines hundreds of years before airplanes were invented. People call him a true genius.

Amazing Paintings

Leonardo painted some of the most famous pictures ever. The Mona Lisa shows a woman with a mysterious smile. People still argue about what she is thinking. The Last Supper is a huge wall painting that shows Jesus eating with his friends. Leonardo studied how light and shadow work to make his paintings look real. He used a smoky technique called sfumato to make soft, blurry edges.

More Than an Artist

Leonardo filled notebooks with drawings and ideas. He drew flying machines, tanks, and robots hundreds of years before they existed. He studied the human body by looking at how muscles and bones worked. He studied water, plants, and animals. He wrote his notes backward, so you need a mirror to read them. Leonardo showed that art and science can work together.
