Marching Bands
Marching Bands
A marching band is a music group that plays while they walk. The members wear matching uniforms and move in neat rows. They play brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments. Marching bands often perform at parades, football games, and special events.
How They Perform
Marching band members play music while making cool shapes on a field or street. These shapes are called formations. A leader called a drum major stands in front and keeps everyone in time. The band practices for many hours to learn each show. They must play and march at the same time without missing a beat.
Instruments and Uniforms
Marching bands use loud instruments so the music can be heard outdoors. Trumpets, trombones, tubas, and drums are very common. Some bands also have flutes, clarinets, and saxophones. The uniforms are often bright and fancy, with tall hats called shakos. Many schools and colleges have their own marching bands.
Fun Facts
- Marching bands started with military groups long ago.
