Bahamas

The Bahamas is a country made up of about 700 islands in the Atlantic Ocean. It is located southeast of Florida. The Bahamas is famous for its clear turquoise water and white sandy beaches. Only about 30 of the islands have people living on them.

About 400,000 people live in the Bahamas. The capital is Nassau, located on the island of New Providence. The islands are flat and made mostly of coral and limestone. The water around the islands is so clear you can see the bottom in many places.

Tourism is the biggest industry in the Bahamas. Millions of visitors come every year to enjoy the beaches and warm weather. The Junkanoo festival is a big celebration with colorful costumes, music, and dancing. Bahamian food includes conch fritters and johnnycake.
