Delaware is a small state on the East Coast of the United States. Even though it is tiny, it has a big place in American history. Delaware was the very first state to approve the U.S. Constitution in 1787. It is often called the First State.

About 1 million people live in Delaware. The capital is Dover, but the largest city is Wilmington. Delaware is the second smallest state in the country. It has flat land, sandy beaches, and marshes along the coast.

Delaware is known for its beautiful beaches along the Atlantic Ocean. Many large companies have their headquarters in Delaware because of its business-friendly laws. The state bird is the blue hen chicken. People enjoy visiting the historic town of New Castle.
