Georgia is a country in the Caucasus region between Europe and Asia. It sits on the Black Sea and has tall snowy mountains. The country has a very long history and its own unique alphabet. About 3.7 million people live in Georgia, and the capital is Tbilisi.
Mountains and Coast
The Caucasus Mountains stretch across northern Georgia. Some peaks are over 16,000 feet tall. People ski in the mountains during the winter. In the west, Georgia has warm beaches on the Black Sea. The country has forests, caves, and waterfalls. Wild animals like brown bears, wolves, and chamois live in the mountains. Farmers grow grapes, tea, and fruit in the lowlands.
Food and History
Georgia is famous for its yummy food. A favorite dish is khachapuri, which is cheesy bread shaped like a boat with an egg on top. Khinkali are juicy dumplings filled with meat. Georgia is also one of the oldest wine-making countries in the world. Ancient churches and towers can be found all across the country. The Georgian alphabet has 33 letters and looks like no other writing system.
