Illinois
Illinois is a state in the middle of the United States. It is part of the area called the Midwest. Illinois has the big city of Chicago and lots of flat farmland. Its capital is Springfield. The state is nicknamed the Prairie State.
Chicago and Lake Michigan
Chicago is the biggest city in Illinois and the third biggest in the country. It sits on the edge of Lake Michigan, one of the Great Lakes. Chicago has tall buildings, including the famous Willis Tower. The city is known for its deep-dish pizza and jazz music. Many museums and parks make Chicago a fun place to visit.
Farms and History
Most of Illinois is covered with farms. Farmers grow corn and soybeans on the flat land. Illinois is also famous as the home state of President Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln lived in Springfield before he became president. Visitors can see his old house and learn about his life.
