Kentucky is a state in the southern part of the United States. It is famous for its grass that looks bluish in the spring. This is why Kentucky is called the Bluegrass State. The capital is Frankfort. Kentucky loves horses and horse races.

Kentucky is known for raising some of the best racehorses in the world. The Kentucky Derby is a famous horse race held every May in Louisville. It is called 'the most exciting two minutes in sports.' People wear fancy hats to watch the race. Many big horse farms can be found across the state.

Caves and Nature

Mammoth Cave in Kentucky is the longest cave system in the world. It has more than 400 miles of passages that people have explored. Visitors can walk through parts of the cave with a guide. Kentucky also has the Appalachian Mountains in the east. The land is full of green forests and rolling hills.
