Louisiana is a state in the southern United States. It sits where the Mississippi River flows into the Gulf of Mexico. Louisiana has swamps, bayous, and warm weather. Its capital is Baton Rouge. The biggest city is New Orleans.

Louisiana has many swamps and wetlands called bayous. Alligators, turtles, and lots of birds live in these watery places. Spanish moss hangs from the trees and makes the swamps look spooky. People sometimes explore bayous by boat. The state also has a long coast along the Gulf of Mexico.
Food and Music
Louisiana is famous for its food and music. People love to eat gumbo, jambalaya, and crawfish. The state is the birthplace of jazz music, which started in New Orleans. Each year, New Orleans has a big party called Mardi Gras with parades and costumes. People come from all over the world to enjoy it.
