Minnesota is a state in the far north of the United States. It sits right next to Canada. Minnesota has cold, snowy winters and warm summers. It is famous for having lots and lots of lakes. The capital is Saint Paul.

Land of Lakes

Minnesota is called the Land of 10,000 Lakes, but it actually has more than that. Some people say there are almost 12,000 lakes. The Mississippi River, one of the longest rivers in America, starts in Minnesota. People love fishing, canoeing, and swimming in the lakes. Loons swim on the water and make pretty calls.

Cities and Life

Minneapolis and Saint Paul are called the Twin Cities. They sit right next to each other. The Mall of America, one of the biggest shopping malls in the world, is near these cities. It even has an amusement park inside. Winters in Minnesota can get very cold, so people bundle up in warm coats.
