Nevada is a state in the western United States. Most of Nevada is covered by a dry desert. It also has tall mountains and big lakes. The biggest city is Las Vegas, which is famous for its bright lights. The capital is Carson City.
The Desert State
Nevada is the driest state in America. Much of it is part of the Great Basin Desert. The land has cactus, sagebrush, and rocky hills. During the day it gets very hot, but nights can be cold. Animals like coyotes, jackrabbits, and lizards live in the desert.
Famous Places
Las Vegas is a huge city with hotels shaped like pyramids and castles. It is full of bright lights and shows. Lake Tahoe sits on the border with California and is one of the clearest lakes in the country. The Hoover Dam is a giant dam on the Colorado River. It makes electricity and created Lake Mead.
