North Carolina

North Carolina is a state in the southeastern United States. It has beaches along the Atlantic Ocean and mountains to the west. The capital is Raleigh. North Carolina is famous for barbecue, basketball, and the Wright brothers' first airplane flight.

Land

North Carolina has three main parts. The east has beaches and islands called the Outer Banks. The middle has rolling hills and big cities. The west has the Great Smoky Mountains. These mountains often look smoky because of the mist that rises from the trees.

Famous Firsts

In 1903, the Wright brothers flew the first airplane at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. This was one of the most important moments in history. The state is also known for great college basketball teams. Many famous players came from North Carolina, including Michael Jordan.
