Pennsylvania is a state in the northeastern United States. It is one of the 13 original states. Pennsylvania played a big role in the country's early history. Its capital is Harrisburg. The biggest cities are Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.
Early American History
Philadelphia is full of important historical places. The Declaration of Independence was signed there in 1776. The Liberty Bell, a famous symbol of freedom, is also in Philadelphia. Independence Hall is where leaders planned the new country. People visit these places to learn how the United States began.
Land and People
Pennsylvania has mountains, rivers, and forests. The Appalachian Mountains run through the state. Pittsburgh is known for its steel factories and sports teams. The Amish, who live simple lives without cars or electricity, live in parts of Pennsylvania. The state is also famous for Hershey, Pennsylvania, where lots of chocolate is made.
