Qatar

Qatar is a small country in the Middle East. It is shaped like a finger that points into the Persian Gulf. Qatar is mostly flat, sandy desert. The capital city is Doha. Qatar has become very rich because it has lots of oil and natural gas under its land and sea.

Modern Cities

Doha, the capital, has tall, shiny skyscrapers along the water. The buildings have cool shapes and glow with lights at night. The city also has museums, parks, and a pretty waterfront called the Corniche. Old markets called souqs sell spices, fabrics, and crafts. People from many countries come to work and live in Qatar.

Sports and Sand

Qatar hosted the World Cup soccer tournament in 2022. It was the first Arab country to host the World Cup. Outside the cities, Qatar is mostly desert with sand dunes. People like to go dune bashing in jeeps and ride camels. The weather is very hot in summer but cooler and nice in winter. Fishing and pearl diving were important jobs in the past.
