Seychelles

Seychelles is a country made up of 115 islands. The islands sit in the Indian Ocean, northeast of Madagascar. Seychelles is one of the smallest countries in Africa. The islands have white sandy beaches, tall palm trees, and clear blue water. Many rare plants and animals live only in Seychelles.

Beaches and Sea Life

The beaches of Seychelles are some of the prettiest in the world. Huge round gray rocks sit on the sand like giant marbles. The water is warm and full of colorful fish, sea turtles, and coral. People snorkel and scuba dive to see the sea life. Giant tortoises live on some of the islands. Some of these tortoises are more than 100 years old.

Plants and People

Seychelles has a special tree called the coco de mer. It grows the biggest seed of any plant in the world. Thick rainforests cover the inner parts of the islands. People speak Creole, English, and French. About 100,000 people live in the country. Fishing and tourism are the main ways people earn a living.
