Spain is a country in southwestern Europe. It takes up most of the Iberian Peninsula. Spain has beautiful beaches, lively festivals, and delicious food. Spanish is one of the most spoken languages in the world.

Land and People

About 47 million people live in Spain. The capital is Madrid. Spain has hot, dry plains in the center, snowy mountains in the north, and sunny beaches along the coast. The Canary Islands in the Atlantic also belong to Spain.

Culture and Fun Facts

Spaniards love soccer and have some of the best teams in the world. Flamenco is a passionate style of dance and music. People eat dinner very late, often at 9 or 10 at night. La Tomatina is a festival where people throw tomatoes at each other!

Did You Know?

The Sagrada Familia church in Barcelona has been under construction since 1882 and is still not finished. The famous architect Antoni Gaudi designed it to look like a forest inside. It is one of the most visited buildings in Europe.
