Texas

Texas is the second largest state in the United States. It is found in the south, near Mexico. Texas is famous for cowboys, ranches, and oil. Its capital is Austin. The state is nicknamed the Lone Star State.

Land and Weather

Texas is so big it has many kinds of land. There are dry deserts in the west and thick forests in the east. The Gulf of Mexico forms part of its southern coast. Texas often has hot summers and mild winters. Some parts of the state can have strong thunderstorms and even tornadoes.

History and Culture

Texas was once its own country called the Republic of Texas. It joined the United States in 1845. Today, Texas has big cities like Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio. People in Texas love barbecue and Tex-Mex food. Rodeos and football games are very popular here.
