Virginia is a state on the east coast of the United States. It was one of the first places where English people settled in America. Virginia has mountains, forests, and beaches. The capital is Richmond.
History
Virginia is full of history. The first lasting English colony was built at Jamestown in 1607. Many early presidents were born in Virginia, including George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. Big battles of the Civil War took place here. You can visit old homes and forts to learn about the past.
Land and Nature
Virginia has the Blue Ridge Mountains in the west. These mountains are part of the Appalachian range. The state also has the Chesapeake Bay, a huge body of water full of crabs and oysters. Shenandoah National Park has beautiful trails for hiking. Many animals live in Virginia's forests.
