Tyrannosaurus Rex
Tyrannosaurus Rex is one of the most famous dinosaurs of all time. Its name means "tyrant lizard king." T. Rex lived about 68 million years ago. It was one of the last dinosaurs before they all went extinct.
A Giant Predator
T. Rex was about 40 feet long and 12 feet tall at the hip. That is as tall as a two-story building! It weighed about 9 tons, which is heavier than an elephant. Its mouth had about 60 teeth, each one as big as a banana.
Tiny Arms, Big Bite
T. Rex had very small arms compared to its huge body. Each arm was only about 3 feet long. But its bite was incredibly powerful. Scientists think T. Rex could crush bones with its jaws. It could eat up to 500 pounds of meat in one bite!
Fun Facts
- T. Rex could run about 12 miles per hour, which is about as fast as a human jogger.
- Its teeth were constantly replaced, so it never ran out of sharp ones.
- The largest T. Rex ever found is named Sue and lives in a museum in Chicago.
Did You Know?
T. Rex had excellent eyesight and could probably see things far away better than a hawk. Scientists also believe it may have had feathers when it was young!
