Air Quality

Air quality means how clean the air is. Clean air helps people, animals, and plants stay healthy. Dirty air can make it hard to breathe and can cause coughs. Cars, factories, and wildfires can all add smoke and gases to the air. Many cities check the air every day to see if it is safe.

What Makes Air Dirty

Smoke from cars and trucks puts gases into the air. Factories can add dust and chemicals too. Burning wood or trash also creates smoke. On some days, the wind blows this pollution far away. Weather and traffic can change how clean the air is.

Keeping Air Clean

Trees are like natural air filters and take in bad gases. Walking, biking, or taking the bus lowers car smoke. Using less electricity can help because power plants make pollution. Many countries have rules to keep the air safer. Clean energy like wind and solar also helps a lot.

Fun Facts

  • One big tree can clean enough air for four people each day.
  • The air quality index uses colors to show how safe the air is.
  • Indoor air can sometimes be dirtier than outdoor air.
