Bee Conservation

Bees are some of the most important creatures on Earth. They pollinate flowers, fruits, and vegetables as they fly from plant to plant collecting nectar. Without bees, many of the foods we love would disappear. Sadly, bee populations have been declining around the world, and people are working hard to help them.

Why Bees Are Declining

Bees face many threats. Pesticides sprayed on crops can poison them. Diseases and parasites like the varroa mite attack bee colonies. Loss of wildflowers and natural habitats means less food for bees. Climate change also affects when flowers bloom, which can leave bees without food at important times.

How to Help Bees

Everyone can help bees in simple ways. Planting wildflowers and bee-friendly plants gives bees food. Avoiding pesticides in gardens keeps bees safe. Leaving a shallow dish of water with pebbles outside gives bees a place to drink. Supporting local beekeepers by buying local honey also helps bee populations thrive.

Fun Facts

  • A single bee colony can pollinate 300 million flowers each day!
  • Bees must visit about 2 million flowers to make just one pound of honey.
  • There are more than 20,000 different species of bees in the world.
