Electric Bikes
Electric Bikes
An electric bike, or e-bike, is a bicycle with a tiny electric motor. The motor helps you pedal, so riding is much easier. You can still pedal like a normal bike if you want to. E-bikes are a fun way to get around without making pollution.
How They Work
An e-bike has a battery that powers a small motor. The motor helps the rider push the pedals. You can ride uphill without feeling tired. The battery needs to be plugged in to charge, just like a phone. Most e-bikes can travel 20 to 50 miles on one charge.
Good for the Earth
E-bikes do not burn gas like cars do. That means they do not put dirty smoke into the air. Riding an e-bike instead of driving helps keep the air clean. They also cost much less than cars and trucks. Many cities are adding bike lanes so people can ride e-bikes safely.
Fun Facts
- Some e-bikes can go as fast as 28 miles per hour.
- E-bikes were first invented over 100 years ago.
- China has more electric bikes than any other country in the world.
