Global Warming

Global warming means the whole Earth is getting hotter over time. This happens because of gases that trap heat in the sky. Burning fuel for cars, planes, and power plants makes these gases. As it gets warmer, ice at the poles melts. This can change weather and harm many animals.

Why It Happens

When we burn gas, oil, or coal, we put carbon dioxide into the air. This gas acts like a blanket around Earth. More of it means more heat stays near the ground. Cutting down forests also makes the problem worse. Trees normally help by soaking up carbon dioxide.

What We Can Do

Using clean energy like solar and wind is a big help. Walking or biking instead of driving cuts down gas. Planting trees takes carbon out of the air. Eating less meat and saving power also make a difference. Working together, people can slow global warming.

Fun Facts

  • The last ten years have been some of the hottest ever measured.
  • Polar bears need sea ice to hunt, so melting ice is a big worry for them.
  • Oceans soak up a lot of the extra heat from global warming.

Even a small rise of a few degrees can change where plants and animals can live.
