Zero-Emission Vehicles

Most cars burn gas to move. This makes smoke that pollutes the air. Zero-emission vehicles are different. They use clean power, like electricity, so they do not put any bad gases into the air.

Types of Clean Vehicles

There are a few kinds of zero-emission vehicles. Electric cars run on big batteries that you plug in to charge. Hydrogen cars use a special fuel called hydrogen and only give off water. Even some bikes and scooters are electric. Many cities are adding electric buses and garbage trucks, too.

Good for the Planet

Zero-emission vehicles help in many ways. They make the air cleaner to breathe in cities. They are also quiet, so streets are less noisy. Over time, they help slow down climate change. The sun and wind can make the electricity that powers them, which is even cleaner.

Fun Facts

  • The first electric car was invented more than 100 years ago.
  • Some electric cars can drive over 300 miles on one charge.
  • Norway sells more electric cars than gas cars each year.

A single electric bus can save about 25 tons of greenhouse gases each year compared to a regular diesel bus.
