Space Tourism
Space tourism means that regular people, not just astronauts, can travel to space. Companies are building special spacecraft to carry tourists above Earth. Some people have already paid to go to space. It is an exciting new way to explore what is beyond our planet.
The First Space Tourists
The first space tourist was Dennis Tito, an American businessman. In 2001, he paid about 20 million dollars to ride a Russian rocket to the International Space Station. He spent about eight days in space. Since then, a few other people have also paid to visit space.
The Future of Space Tourism
Companies like SpaceX, Blue Origin, and Virgin Galactic are working to make space trips more common. Some flights go just to the edge of space for a few minutes. Others orbit Earth for days. In the future, there may even be hotels in space. Space tourism could become something many more people get to experience.
