The Discovery of Troy
The Discovery of Troy
Troy was a city from ancient Greek stories. The old tales said there was a huge war there with a giant wooden horse. For many years, people thought Troy was just a made-up place. But in the 1870s, a man named Heinrich Schliemann proved it was real.
Finding a Lost City
Heinrich Schliemann loved the stories of Troy since he was a boy. He used the old poems to try to find the city. He dug in a place in modern-day Turkey. Soon, he uncovered walls and gates from an ancient city. He believed he had found the lost city of Troy.
What Was Found
At the site, workers found pieces of pottery, tools, and gold treasures. They discovered that there were actually many cities built on top of each other over time. Scientists today still study Troy to learn about life long ago. The city is now a special protected place. Visitors can walk around the old stone ruins.
