Waffles

Waffles are yummy cakes made from batter. They are cooked in a machine called a waffle iron. The iron gives waffles their cool square pockets. These pockets are perfect for holding syrup, fruit, or whipped cream. Waffles are crunchy on the outside and soft inside.

Waffles were first made in Europe long ago. People in Belgium and Holland loved them. The first waffle irons were held over a fire. Belgian waffles are known for being thick and fluffy. Today, waffles are eaten all over the world.
