Two Tall Peaks

Mount Elbrus has two tops close together. The west peak is the higher one at 18,510 feet. The east peak is a little bit shorter. Both peaks are covered in snow and ice all year. Big rivers of ice called glaciers slide down the slopes.

A Sleeping Volcano

Mount Elbrus is a volcano, but it is not active now. It has not erupted for about 2,000 years. The ground under the mountain is still warm in some spots. Hot springs bubble up nearby where people can enjoy a warm bath. Scientists keep an eye on the mountain just to be safe.
