The Alps
The Alps are the biggest mountain range in Europe. They curve across eight different countries. The tallest peak is called Mont Blanc. Many people visit the Alps to ski, hike, and see the pretty views.
Where the Alps Are
The Alps run through France, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Liechtenstein, and Monaco. They stretch for about 750 miles in a long curve. The mountains were formed millions of years ago when two big pieces of Earth's crust crashed together. Today they are still slowly growing taller.
Life in the Alps
Many animals live in the Alps, like ibex, marmots, and golden eagles. People in the mountains often raise cows and make cheese. In winter, the Alps are covered in deep snow and people ski down the slopes. In summer, hikers walk through green meadows full of wildflowers.
