The Danube River
The Danube River
The Danube is the second longest river in Europe. It flows through 10 different countries, more than any other river in the world. The river starts in Germany and ends at the Black Sea. Many famous cities sit along the Danube.
A River of Cities
Four capital cities sit on the Danube: Vienna, Bratislava, Budapest, and Belgrade. The river has been used for travel and trade for thousands of years. Ships still carry goods up and down it today. Old castles and bridges line its banks.
Nature on the Danube
The Danube ends in a big wetland called the Danube Delta. Many birds live there, like pelicans and egrets. The river is home to fish like sturgeon, which can grow very large. People enjoy boating and fishing on the Danube.
