Bike Safety
Bike Safety
Riding a bike is fun and good exercise. But bikes can be dangerous if you are not careful. Bike safety helps you have fun and stay safe at the same time. Every rider, young or old, should follow bike safety rules.
Wear a Helmet
A helmet is the most important thing to wear when riding. It protects your head if you fall. Make sure your helmet fits snug and the strap is buckled. The helmet should sit flat on your head, not tilted back. Never ride without your helmet on.
Rules of the Road
When you ride a bike, you must follow rules like cars do. Ride on the right side of the road in the same direction as traffic. Stop at stop signs and red lights. Use hand signals to show when you are turning. Always look both ways before crossing a street.
Fun Facts
- Bike helmets can reduce head injuries by about 85 percent.
- Bikes have been around for over 200 years.
- Wearing bright colors helps drivers see you better.
