Bug Bite Prevention

Bugs like mosquitoes, ticks, and flies can bite people. Bug bites can be itchy and sometimes make you sick. You can do simple things to keep bugs away. This is called bug bite prevention.

Keeping Bugs Away

Bug spray, also called insect repellent, helps keep bugs off your skin. Ask a grown-up to help you put it on. Wear long sleeves and pants in the woods or tall grass. Light colors are better than dark ones. Stay away from still water, where mosquitoes like to live.

Checking for Ticks

Ticks are tiny bugs that can stick to your skin. After playing outside, check your body for ticks. Look in your hair, behind your ears, and around your ankles. If you find one, tell a grown-up right away. They can help you remove it safely.
