Eyes

Your eyes are one of your five senses. They help you see shapes, colors, and movement. Eyes work like tiny cameras. They take in light and send pictures to your brain. Your brain then tells you what you are looking at.

Parts of the Eye

The eye has many parts. The round colored part is called the iris. The black dot in the middle is the pupil. Light goes into the eye through the pupil. The clear front part is the cornea. Inside the eye is a lens that helps you focus. The back of the eye is called the retina. It sends signals to your brain.

Taking Care of Your Eyes

It is important to keep your eyes healthy. Eat foods like carrots and leafy greens. Wear sunglasses on sunny days to protect them. Do not stare at screens for too long. Get plenty of sleep so your eyes can rest. If things look blurry, you may need to wear glasses to help you see better.

Fun Facts

  • Your eyes blink about 15 to 20 times every minute.
  • People can have blue, green, brown, gray, or hazel eyes.
  • Eyes stay almost the same size from the day you are born.

Did You Know?
