First Aid

First aid is what you do right away to help someone who gets hurt. It can be as simple as putting a bandage on a cut. First aid can also mean calling for help in an emergency. Many homes and schools have a first aid kit. Knowing basic first aid can help keep people safe.

Simple First Aid

For a small cut, you can wash it with water and put on a bandage. For a bump or bruise, an ice pack can help. If someone has a nosebleed, they should lean forward and pinch their nose. Always tell a grown-up when someone is hurt. A calm voice helps the person feel better too.

Getting Help

Some injuries need a doctor or a hospital right away. If someone is badly hurt, call for an adult. In many places, you can call 911 for help. Stay with the hurt person and tell them help is coming. Never move someone who is badly injured unless they are in danger.

Fun Facts
