Food Allergies

Some people cannot eat certain foods safely. This is called a food allergy. Their body thinks the food is dangerous and tries to fight it. This can make them feel very sick. Food allergies are common in kids.

Common Food Allergies

Some foods cause allergies more often than others. Peanuts and tree nuts are big ones. Milk, eggs, and wheat can also cause allergies. Fish, shellfish, soy, and sesame are other common foods. Many kids outgrow their allergies as they get older.

Staying Safe

Kids with food allergies must read food labels carefully. They learn to ask about ingredients at parties and restaurants. Never share food with a friend who has an allergy unless you know it is safe. Some kids carry a special medicine called an EpiPen. Being a good friend means helping keep allergy kids safe.
