Getting Enough Sleep
Sleep is when your body rests and repairs itself. Your brain sorts through everything you learned during the day. Kids need more sleep than adults because their bodies and brains are still growing.
How Much Sleep Do Kids Need
Kids ages six to twelve need about nine to twelve hours of sleep each night. Teenagers need eight to ten hours. Not getting enough sleep can make you cranky, forgetful, and more likely to get sick.
Your body does important work while you sleep. It grows, fights off germs, and stores memories.
Tips for Better Sleep
Go to bed at the same time each night and wake up at the same time each morning. Turn off screens like tablets and phones at least 30 minutes before bed. The light from screens can trick your brain into staying awake.
Make your room dark, quiet, and cool. Read a book or listen to calm music to help you relax.
