Showing Courage
Courage does not mean you are never afraid. It means you do the right thing even when you feel scared. Everyone can be brave in their own way.
What Courage Looks Like
Courage can be trying something new, like joining a new club. It can be standing up for a friend who is being treated unfairly. It can be admitting you made a mistake.
Sometimes courage is quiet. Raising your hand in class when you are shy takes courage. Telling the truth when it is hard takes courage, too.
Building Your Courage
Start small. Try one new thing that makes you a little nervous. Each time you face a fear, you get a little braver.
Talk to someone about your fears. Often, things seem less scary when you share them. Remember that it is okay to feel afraid. Courage is about acting in spite of fear.
Fun Facts
- The word courage comes from the French word for heart.
