Stomach Aches

Almost everyone gets a stomach ache from time to time. Your belly might hurt, feel crampy, or feel queasy. Most stomach aches are not serious and go away on their own.

Common Causes

Eating too much or too fast can cause a stomach ache. So can eating foods that do not agree with you. Gas, constipation, and stomach bugs are other common causes.

Stress and worry can also make your stomach hurt. Your brain and stomach are connected, so strong feelings can give you butterflies or cramps.

Feeling Better

If your stomach hurts, try lying down and resting. Sip small amounts of water or clear fluids. Avoid greasy or spicy foods until you feel better.

A warm cloth on your belly can help ease cramps. If the pain is very strong or lasts a long time, tell an adult so you can see a doctor.
