Sunburn Prevention

The sun feels warm and nice, but too much sun can hurt your skin. A sunburn makes your skin red, hot, and painful. You can stop sunburns before they happen. This is called sunburn prevention, and it keeps your skin safe.

Using Sunscreen

Sunscreen is a lotion or spray that blocks the sun's harmful rays. Put it on your skin before you go outside. Choose a sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher. Do not forget your ears, nose, and the back of your neck. Put more on every two hours and after swimming.

Other Ways to Stay Safe

Sunscreen is not the only way to stop sunburns. Wear a hat with a wide brim to shade your face. Sunglasses keep your eyes safe too. Long sleeves and light pants can cover your skin. Try to play in the shade when the sun is strongest, around noon.
