Ottoman Janissaries

The Janissaries were the most famous soldiers of the Ottoman Empire. The Ottoman Empire was a huge kingdom that lasted more than 600 years. Janissaries were known for being brave and well-trained. They wore special uniforms with tall white hats. They protected the sultan, who was the ruler.

How They Trained

Janissaries started training when they were still young boys. They learned how to fight with swords, bows, and later guns. They also learned reading, math, and music. Training was hard and lasted many years. Only the best students became full Janissaries.

Janissaries were the sultan's personal army. They fought in many wars and helped the Ottoman Empire grow. They were also guards in the palace and cities. The Janissaries were among the first soldiers in the world to use guns in battle. Their strength made them feared by many enemies.
