Teotihuacan

Teotihuacan was a great city in what is now Mexico. It was built about 2,000 years ago. At one time, more than 100,000 people lived there. The city had huge pyramids, wide streets, and many houses. People still come to see its ruins today.

Giant Pyramids

Teotihuacan has two very big pyramids. The Pyramid of the Sun is the largest one. It stands more than 200 feet tall. The Pyramid of the Moon is a bit smaller. Visitors today can climb to the top and see the whole city.

A Mystery City

No one knows for sure who built Teotihuacan or what language they spoke. The Aztecs found the city empty hundreds of years later. They gave it the name Teotihuacan, which means 'place where gods were born.' A long main road runs through the city. It is called the Avenue of the Dead.
