The American Revolution
The American Revolution
A long time ago, America was not its own country. It was made up of 13 colonies ruled by Britain. The people living there felt the British king was not being fair. They had to pay lots of taxes but had no say in the rules. So they decided to fight for their freedom. This big fight was called the American Revolution. It lasted from 1775 to 1783. In the end, the colonies won and became a brand new country called the United States of America.
Why Did It Start?
The British king made the colonies pay taxes on things like tea, paper, and sugar. The colonists were angry because they had no vote in the British government. They said it was not fair to pay taxes without having a voice. One famous protest was the Boston Tea Party. Colonists dressed up and threw boxes of tea into the harbor. This made the king very mad and soon the war began.
The War and Freedom
George Washington led the American army. His soldiers were often cold, hungry, and tired. But they were brave and did not give up. On July 4, 1776, the leaders signed the Declaration of Independence. This paper said the colonies were free from Britain. After many battles, the Americans won the war in 1783. A new country was born, and Washington became the first president.
