The Green Revolution

In the mid-1900s, many countries did not have enough food for their people. Scientists worked hard to create better crops that could grow more food. This effort is called the Green Revolution. It helped save millions of people from hunger.

New Farming Methods

A scientist named Norman Borlaug developed new types of wheat that produced much more grain. Farmers also started using better fertilizers and watering systems. These changes helped countries like India and Mexico grow much more food. Borlaug won the Nobel Peace Prize for his work.

Results and Challenges

The Green Revolution doubled or tripled crop production in many countries. Millions of people who might have starved were fed. But the new methods also used lots of water and chemicals. Today, scientists are looking for even better ways to grow food without harming the environment.
