The Han Dynasty

The Han Dynasty ruled China from 206 BCE to 220 CE. It is one of the most important dynasties in Chinese history. The Han emperors ruled during a time of peace and growth. Many things we think of as Chinese culture started during the Han Dynasty. Even today, most Chinese people call themselves the Han people.

Great Inventions

The Han Dynasty was a time of amazing inventions. The Chinese invented paper during the Han Dynasty. They also made the first seismograph, a tool that could tell when earthquakes happened. Han doctors studied medicine and made lists of healing herbs. Han farmers used better plows and tools than people in most other parts of the world.

Opening Trade

The Han emperors sent people to explore lands to the west. This helped start the Silk Road. Chinese silk became very famous in faraway places like Rome. In return, China got horses, grapes, and new foods. The Han Dynasty helped connect East Asia with the rest of the world.
