The History of Cinema

Movies are one of the most popular forms of entertainment in the world. The first movies were short, silent films made in the late 1800s. Over time, movies got sound, color, and special effects. Today, the film industry creates thousands of movies every year.

Early Movies

Movies Get Better

The first movie with sound, called a "talkie," was "The Jazz Singer" in 1927. Color films became common in the 1930s and 1940s. Hollywood in California became the center of the movie industry. Today, computer effects create amazing scenes that would have been impossible in early films.
