The Mayflower Voyage

The Mayflower was a small wooden ship that crossed the Atlantic Ocean in 1620. It carried the Pilgrims to a new home in America. The trip took more than two months. The ocean was stormy and cold. It was one of the most famous voyages in American history.

Life on the Ship

The Mayflower was only about 100 feet long. More than 100 people had to live on the ship together. They slept below deck where it was dark and wet. Food was simple, like dried meat and hard biscuits. Many people got sick during the long trip.

Reaching America

The Mayflower left England in September 1620. It landed at a place called Cape Cod in November. The Pilgrims had planned to go farther south, but storms changed their path. They decided to stay and build a town called Plymouth. The Mayflower sailed back to England a few months later.
