The Mongol Empire

The Mongol Empire was started by a leader named Genghis Khan about 800 years ago. The Mongols came from the grasslands of central Asia. They were amazing horse riders and skilled fighters. In just a short time, they built the biggest land empire in history. It stretched from Asia all the way to Europe.

Genghis Khan

Genghis Khan united the Mongol tribes and became their leader. He was a brilliant general who won many battles. His army used fast horses and powerful bows. Genghis Khan conquered huge parts of Asia. After he died, his family kept growing the empire even bigger.

Life on the Steppes

The Mongols lived in round tents called yurts or gers. These tents could be packed up and moved easily. The Mongols raised sheep, goats, and horses. Children learned to ride horses when they were very young. Even though they were fierce warriors, the Mongols allowed trade and travel across their empire.
