The Renaissance was a special time in Europe. It started in Italy about 600 years ago. The word Renaissance means rebirth. People began to learn new things. They made beautiful art. They read old books from long ago. They asked big questions about the world. This time changed how people lived and thought.

Artists made stunning paintings and statues. Leonardo da Vinci painted the Mona Lisa. Michelangelo painted the roof of a big church called the Sistine Chapel. He also carved a huge statue of David from one block of stone. Artists learned to make their work look real. They studied how light and shadow work. Their art still makes people smile today.
