The Rise of Christianity
The Rise of Christianity
Christianity is one of the world's largest religions. It began about 2,000 years ago in a part of the world called the Middle East. It is based on the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth. His followers believed he was the Son of God. At first, only a small group of people followed his teachings. But over hundreds of years, Christianity spread across the Roman Empire and then around the world.
The Teachings of Jesus
Jesus taught people to love one another and to be kind. He told stories called parables to help people understand his lessons. He helped the poor and the sick. His followers wrote down his teachings in a book called the New Testament. After Jesus died, his followers, called apostles, traveled to many places to share his message. One of the most important was Paul, who started churches in many cities.
How Christianity Spread
At first, the Roman Empire did not allow Christianity. Some early Christians were punished for their beliefs. But the religion kept growing. In 313 CE, Emperor Constantine made it legal to be Christian. Later, it became the official religion of the Roman Empire. Over hundreds of years, Christianity spread to Europe, Africa, and then to every part of the world.
