The Seven Years' War
The Seven Years' War
The Seven Years' War lasted from 1756 to 1763. It was one of the first wars fought around the world. Britain and Prussia fought against France, Austria, and Russia. Battles took place in Europe, North America, India, and other places. Some people call it the first 'world war.' When it was over, Britain had become the most powerful country in the world, with colonies on many continents.
A War on Many Fronts
The war started because European countries were competing for land and power. In Europe, armies fought huge battles with cannons and muskets. In North America, the British and French fought over territory in what Americans call the French and Indian War. In India, the British and French also battled for control of trade. Ships fought at sea too. It was a truly global war.
The Results of the War
Britain won the war and gained a lot of new territory. France lost most of its land in North America, including Canada. Spain gave up Florida to Britain. The war was very expensive, and Britain tried to make its American colonists help pay for it through taxes. This made the colonists angry and helped lead to the American Revolution just a few years later.
